AFTERCARE

Want to make the most out of the your new lashes/ brows? Follow these aftercare instructions to help extend the life of your new self care investment so you feel your best everyday.

Lash Lift & Tint

The great thing about a Lash Lift is that it is a very low maintenance procedure however, there is a little extra care required over the first 24-48hrs.

First 24 hours:

  • Avoid water, cleansers, heat & steam for the first 24hrs.

  • No other facial beauty treatments for 24hrs.

  • Swimming should be avoided for at least 24hrs.

  • No eye make or heat (oven, fires etc.) near the lashes for 24-48 hours.

  • Do not sleep on your eyelashes as it can distort the shape.

After 24 hours:

  • Always avoid waterproof mascara as it's harsh on the lashes when removing.

  • Regular mascara is fine after 24 hours, which can enhance the look.

  • We recommend our Revive Mascara which hydrates/ strengthens the lashes and uses beeswax to prevent smudging or clumping.

  • Do not use harsh products on your eyes/lashes.

  • Be gentle with your lashes; no rubbing as it may cause premature shedding.

  • Regular sauna, steam and/or chlorine is possible after 24hrs but may weaken the effect of the lift.

  • IMPORTANT: Condition/ Hydrate your lashes daily for 6-12 weeks to keep them soft, hydrated, strong and prevent them from getting dry or brittle.

  • A Keratin or Collagen based Eyelash Conditioner is recommended as the solution coats the lashes and penetrates the hair. This will repair, strengthen, hydrate and soften the lashes to help extend the life of the curl and keep the lift looking lovely.

  • Flutter Eyes does stock a superior brand of Lash Conditioner which is formulated for Lash Lift aftercare.

  • Argon Oil can be used to try help keep your lashes from drying out, however it does not penetrate the hair shafts like a formulated lash conditioner does, so may not prevent drying or damage. Lashes need some daily hydration to maintain a nice lift, therefore this can be an alternative option for those with oily complexion & lashes. This is NOT adequate aftercare for most.

If you want to get Lash lifts on a regular basis, it is recommended and important that you use a lash conditioner to keep them hydrated. Additionally, if you'd like your Lash lift to be more dramatic, I stock a great product called Revive7 ® which is formulated to make your eyelashes (and brows) grow longer, thicker and fuller. It's magic in a bottle. I recommend using this 3 weeks before your Lash lift but it's not required.

Henna Brows / Brow Dye

Being that Henna & Brow Dye stains the outer layer of skin, try be careful with over cleaning/ exfoliating the stained area. Avoid harsh soaps and chemicals as these products will cause the tattoo affect to fade sooner.

Green Eyes and Makeup

Post Care:

  • Do not wet brows for 24-48 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid rubbing brows.

  • Do not apply cosmetics directly on brows for at least 24 hours

  • Avoid sunbathing for 24 hours, as this can cause henna to fade

  • Please note that oil based make up remover can cause henna to fade quicker

  • Avoid saunas for at least 48 hours after your treatment, or longer if possible

  • Exposure to the sun/UV lights for long periods can cause your brows to fade quicker

  • Avoid washing the brow area as this will remove the skin strain faster

  • Only touch the brow area with super clean hands for at least 12 hours.

  • Avoid using make up remover in the brow area.

  • The less you touch/ clean the brows, the longer the stain will last.

  • Understand that oil breaks down stain. If you have oily/ combination skin you may experience faster fading of henna or dye on the skin.

Facial & Brow Waxing / Tinting / Henna Tint

You’ve just invested time, money and a little discomfort in order to be hair free and have defined brows– so it makes sense to look after them.

Do's:

  • Wash your hands before scratching or touching the area.

  • Use gentle facial cleanser or eye makeup remover and avoid deep exfoliating products on the area to prevent irritation or hair breakage.

  • Keep the skin area clean for 12-24 hours after a wax to avoid bacterial entering your open hair follicles.

  • Understand that the effects of the tint will start to diminish within 2 to 4 weeks as hair grows out and the tint colour fades.

Don'ts:

  • Don't get the brow or lash area wet for 24 hours to help prolong the tint.

  • Do not touch or rub your newly waxed skin, eyes, eyelashes, or eyebrows immediately after the treatment

  • The use of harsh make-up cleansing products could prematurely reduce your brow tint.

  • Avoid the use of such products at all in between treatments to prolong the colour retention of your tint.

  • Strong sunlight/UV light can make the tint colour fade faster, please avoid if possible.

  • Do not shave, pluck or tweeze in-between appointments particularly in areas where your therapist has advised re-growth

Brow Lamination

The aftercare for Brow Lamination is very easy but also very important. Please follow the below to prolong your brow lift and keep your brow hairs happy and healthy.

Do's:
  • Comb the hairs into place after showering, sleeping etc., while wet or with product.

  • Always be gentle with your brow hairs and avoid rubbing them.

  • Apply a hydrating product such as Brow Butter, a Lash/ Brow Conditioner, or an oil such as argon oil to your eyebrows daily.

  • Some may need more hydration than others. Apply twice daily if brows feel dry.

  • It is best to brush brows at 45 degree angle, rather than straight up.

  • Tip: Use a hydrating product such as Brow Butter or Brow Pomade to set brows in place as the brow hairs will be flexible, as well as tame new growth so they look freshly done for weeks. Available at Flutter Eyes.

  • For those wearing eyelash extensions, it is best to use an eyelash extension safe lash conditioner on brows as any oil applied to the face may affect the lash retention.

  • To apply Brow Butter; use the soft brush provided and apply a small amount into hairs, making sure to cover all the layers. Use your mascara wands to brush hairs into place at an angle. Smooth over with your finger or soft brush as required. Brush along the top and tail to slim out if desired.

  • Only use oil based make removers, to prevent rubbing/ breakage.

  • Apply hair conditioner to the brows while in the shower as often as possible, to help keep them soft and hydrated. Apply Hair treatments to brows such as Olaplex.

  • To keep your brows looking fresh, I recommend a Brow Maintenance appointment around 3-4 week after your brow lift, for either Brow shaping & Tint, Brow Dye or Henna. I will also apply a nice deep hydrating product to help keep your brow hairs soft and pliable.

Don'ts:
  • Do not wet your eyebrows for 24-48 hours

  • I will brush your brows into place. Please don't re-brush or move the hairs for the first day after your brow lift as they take up to 24 hours to fully set.

  • Avoid touching the brow area at the risk of transferring oils.

  • Do not apply makeup or product to the brows for 24 hours post-treatment

  • Do not apply Retin A or exfoliate the brow area for 72 hours before or after the treatment

  • Avoid self-tanner products used on the face for at least 48 hours post-treatment, and a week prior to any tinting.

  • Never brush too far against the natural hair growth direction as this can cause breakage.

  • Avoid over brushing, rubbing or being rough with your brows are they need more TLC after a Brow Lamination.

  • Try avoid prolonged direct sunlight for the 3-7 days as it an weaken the lift.

Important: A conditioner like Brow Butter, Brow Balm, oil or other deep Hydrating product should be applied daily for 6-12 weeks to keep your brow hairs soft and healthy. Eyelash Extensions

Now that you have your beautiful extensions, you will need to follow some simple aftercare rules to keep them looking their best.

Remember, just like nails, your natural lashes grow, and this means that your set will start to look less full over the weeks. After 2 – 3 weeks you will require a maintenance appointment, if you wish to keep them looking their best. You will see your eyelash extensions naturally shedding daily, so do not be alarmed as this is perfectly normal. Your natural eyelashes do this every day, but you just cannot see them.

At an infill we remove extensions that have grown out and twisted, and replace those extensions that have naturally shed with your natural lashes.

Shedding Cycle

Humans shed approximately 2-5 natural eyelashes per upper lid, per eye, per day (lets average this at 3 per day), and Lash Artists will apply approximately 100 extensions to the suitable natural lashes of each eye, therefore you will see the following general loss patterns per eye:

  • After 7 days you will lose 21 extensions

  • After 14 days you will lose 42 extensions

  • After 21 days you will lose 63 extensions

Therefore after 3 weeks you may have lost over half your set with natural shedding, not including the premature loss of extensions caused by oils, make up, pillow friction, touching the eye area, or build up of make up/ skin etc. It is normal to lose up to 5 extensions per eye within the first 24 hours, do not worry. Now you can see why your lashes, just like your nails, have to be maintained to keep them looking their best; because eyelashes grow and shed daily!

Eyelash Aftercare Rules

Without proper aftercare, eyelash extensions will fall our prematurely.

  • You may get your lashes wet 5 minutes after application however, please be gentle with them. If you have sensitive skin, you can splash clean your eye area with water when you get home to wash away the glue vapour from your skin and lash line.

  • Please always keep your extensions clean – clean them gently but thoroughly with a designated lash cleanser & brush. Bodily oils that travel onto your extensions will break down adhesive if not removed by cleaning. Failure to clean your lashes will not only result in poor retention, but the build up of bacteria, and can lead to eye infections.

  • Keep oil based products away from your extensions, and limit the use of oily products on your face if possible. Oily products are absorbed into the skin and these then leave your body through pores in your skin, including your eyelids. This oil can travel onto the extensions and break down the glue.

  • Brush your extensions at least twice a times a day to keep them looking neat, tidy and uniformed.

  • Do not pick or pull at your extensions. The adhesive, although safe to use, is very strong and picking or pulling will pull your natural lashes out which can cause damage.

  • Do not sleep on your face. Your extensions are delicate, so ‘face planting’ in your pillow will cause your extensions to fall out where they are being rubbed out in the night.

  • Always return for infills within the time recommended by your Lash Artist, that suites your shedding pattern, or leave them to fall out naturally / removed professionally. Never attempt to remove the extensions yourself.

  • NEVER apply mascara or liquid or gel eyeliner to your extensions or upper eyelid. Both will adhere to the extensions, cannot be safely cleansed off and will create a breeding ground for bacteria. If you ignore this rule then you may be charged for a removal and full set. There are specially designed mascara for bottom eyelashes, please ask.

  • Always arrive with squeaky clean extensions. Eyelash extension will only stick to very clean eyelashes. Unclean extensions may either require a full removal for client safety, an additional cleansing fee, or less lashing time due to the cleaning time needed.

How to clean your Eyelash Extensions

Always use a cleanser designed for Eyelash Extensions as most other products contain ingredients that can break down the lash adhesive that bonds the extension to your eyelash. Pump a good amount of your Lash Foam Cleanser onto your soft brush then apply to eyelashes. Clean the entire eye area, focusing on the lash line. Clean from side to side, downward, on top and underneath. Please avoid going in a circular motion as this can tangle the lashes. Once thoroughly washed, rinse off the foam and repeat on the other eye. Our eyelashes are designed to keep oils, dirt, sweat and partials out of our eyes. When lash extensions are applied, the lash line becomes more dense meaning the oils, dust and dirt can no longer be easily washed away which is why we have to clean them.

You can clean your eyelashes in the shower or over the sink, what ever is easier for you.

Please clean them at least once at day, preferably twice a day in the morning and at night.

Always clean your eyelashes right after the following activities in addition to

your daily cleansing:

  • Working out

  • Hot Yoga

  • Swimming in pools, lake, sea, rivers

  • Crying

  • Touching your eyes

  • Being in a Hot tub

  • Heavy Sweating

  • Excess dust/ dirt

  • Wearing any make up (only wear extension safe make up that washes off easily)

Other items to consider

Avoid extreme heat from the oven, fires, BBQ and smoking as the material used for lash extensions will singe when close to heat.

If you are a side sleeper, try silk pillow cases or a mask designed for eyelash extension. Some are able to train themselves to sleep on their backs which does significantly improve retention.

Infills

Please have super super clean eyelashes, free from make up, skin build up, lotions or oils. Please thoroughly wash with your lashes within 30 minutes of your appointment with your Lash Foam Cleanser and soft brush, or when you arrive if you are unable to clean them beforehand. Infills are recommended every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain your extensions. This is due to our natural eyelash shedding cycles and other factors such as exposure to make up, oils, skin build up or touching your eyes a lot which may cause the extensions to fall sooner. If you wait too long, your eyelash extensions will fall out and a full set would be required. You can book infills based on time frames to suit your personal lash shedding. You can choose from Mini, Regular or Large infills as everyone sheds differently and some will need longer than others to refill lashes.  As part of your infill service, your grown out lash extensions will be removed while applying to preserve the natural lash health. Here is a guide to help you determine what infill type you would need. I will also advise you based on your retention.

Infill Guide:

Mini Infill : Within 1 week |  75% + Lash Extensions remaining
Regular Infill  : Around 2-3 weeks  |  50-75% Remaining
Large Infill: Around 2.5 - 3.5 weeks  |  25-50% Remaining
Full/ New Set: More than 3.5 weeks | Under 25% Remaining

Note: Past 3.5 weeks or under 25% remaining is a Full Set as most of the extensions will be very grown out and need removal.

Flutter Eyes does offer a 10 Minute top up option (fees apply) in the event that we are not able to fill all your eyelashes in the allotted time of the infill selected. This is only available if my schedule allows. If you have a lot of eyelashes or shed more than normal, a large fill is recommend.
